SUMMARY:Forestry Field Day
DESCRIPTION:Do you own pasture or cropland and have an interest in converting this land to trees? If so\, join us to learn more about how this could be done\, the potential financial returns\, and how the management of your land would change. The two speakers at our event will be Raoul Moore of Moore Family Tree Farm and Lenny Farlee. Lenny is the Sustaining Hardwood Extension Specialist at Purdue University.  \n\n\n\nTopics to be discussed include why trees matter economically\, how to get started in tree farming\, and timber stand improvement. Please be sure to wear appropriate clothing for the weather and the terrain conditions such as long pants and boots. Bring along a reusable water bottle that can be refilled. DESCRIPTION:Weed Wrangle to tackle honeysuckle on the Sugar Creek Trail. These invasive species are causing environmental harm and removing will allow native Indiana plants to grow in their place! We will have loppers and hand saws on hand to remove the honeysuckle. This event is in partnership with Crawfordsville Parks and Recreation. We will be meeting at the Rock River Ridge Trailhead.  Please bring your own work gloves if you have them. Long pants are preferred to shorts as we will be working in a wooded area. DESCRIPTION:Update– We have closed registration for this event as all of our spots have been filled. Please check out https://women4theland.org/upcoming-events for future events. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nOn October 19\, we will be hosting a Women4theLand learning circle in Montgomery County! We have partnered with the Hendricks County SWCD to host this event with a focus on forestry and invasive species. Learn the importance of managing invasive species for yourself\, your family\, and your land! In the morning we will be offering educational sessions and networking opportunities. At 11 am we will be carpooling to a property of Moore Family Tree Farm to spend the rest of our day touring the tree farm\, watching demos\, and some hands-on activities.  Please bring along a camping chair for this section of the day. We will have a tent at this afternoon location to block out the weather if need be. If there is a chance of heavy rain we will stay the entire day at Fusion 54. Light morning refreshments and lunch will be provided. Bring along a refillable water bottle to stay hydrated throughout the day.
