War of the Weeds with SWCD and NICHES
April 23, 2022 @ 10:00 am – 4:00 pm EDT
Every spring, the invasive plant garlic mustard emerges across our preserves in large numbers. If left unchecked, this weed can change soil chemistry, overtake the forest’s understory, and diminish the beautiful display of native ephemeral wildflowers. With your help, the forest understory will be filled with a diverse mix of plants that provide food and shelter to abundant wildlife.
We are partnering with NICHES land trust to run the War of the Weeds shifts this year at Bachner. This is NICHES single biggest annual volunteer push; if they can manage to fill every volunteer shift it will provide over a thousand volunteer hours during a critically important stewardship window.Â
There are two shifts available to work on this day: 10-1, 1-4. Every Volunteer that Signs up for at least 2 shifts before the end of March will receive this years WOTW t-shirt (design below).
